Community Guidelines

Linger works when everyone shows up in good faith. These rules aren't suggestions — they're how we keep the community safe and friendly.

Last updated: May 2026

✓ Be a real, recognizable person

Use your real first name and a photo or avatar that represents you. No catfishing, no impersonation, no celebrity headshots.

✓ Keep it platonic

Linger is for friendship. If you're looking for romance, use a dating app. Hitting on people through Linger is a fast way to get reported.

✓ Show up when you commit

If you make a plan, show up. Repeated no-shows or last-minute cancellations affect your matching and may lead to account restrictions.

✗ No hate or harassment

Slurs, threats, racism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, or any form of targeted abuse will get your account permanently banned. No warnings.

✗ No solicitation or business pitches

This includes selling products, recruiting for MLMs, religious proselytizing, political organizing, and "just want to network" meetups.

✗ No NSFW content

Photos, messages, or profile content of a sexual nature are removed and the account suspended.

Reporting

Tap ⋯ on any profile or message to report. Our trust & safety team reviews reports within 24 hours, and serious reports within 1 hour. AI-assisted triage helps us prioritize urgent reports the moment they come in — but a human always makes the final call.

Consequences

Minor violations get a warning. Repeat or serious violations get a temporary suspension. Anything in the ✗ list above is grounds for an immediate, permanent ban.

See something off? Report it. We'd rather review a hundred false alarms than miss one real problem.
